The L16 was developed as a CNC Swiss-type automatic lathe that retained the operating convenience of the cam-type machines but was superior to them in all respects including machining speed, accuracy and rigidity: it accomplished simultaneous machining with the gang tool post and the opposite tool post accomodating three tools, and this coupled with its excellent cost performance led to an unprecedented response at JIMTOF 1986.
